AERONET Instrument Troubleshooting Interface - Solutions for PARITY ERRORS Flag
Description Each DCP satellite message includes a parity checksum that AERONET uses to detect data corruption during transmission. A parity error means the received message does not match its own checksum, indicating that one or more bits were flipped in transit - typically due to a weak or noisy signal between the transmitter and the satellite. Occasional parity errors are expected, but a high rate suggests the antenna is misaligned, obstructed, or the transmitter is underpowered.
Condition(s) Check for one parity error in message and then flag the message. Flag if >4 messages per day (GOES) or >8 messages per day (METEOSAT/GMS)

Solution Level 1 (< 5 minutes) 1. Check/reseat connections around transmitter. 2. Ensure that the transmitter is receiving adequate 12V power. 3. Ensure there are no obstructions in the antenna's field of view
Solution Level 2 (more involved) 1. Ensure antenna is oriented properly. 2. Evaluate transmitter LED indicator.
Solution Level 3 (last resort) 1. Repair or replace transmitter.
